Grade 5: Scales – chromatic: Introduction
The chromatic scale is a musical scale with twelve pitches, each a semitone above or below another.
There are different ways of writing the chromatic scale but you must adhere to one general rule. There must be at least one note on a line or space but no more than two. You can see below two different chromatic scales both starting on the same key note.
Either of these scales are acceptable but the first one would be easier to read. Notice that on each scale you have at least one note on a line or space and no more that two.
