grade four – chromatic scale

Grade 4: Chromatic scale: Introduction

In the exam you may be asked to write a chromatic scale. The scale will be either ascending or descending and will include either the treble or bass clef. There are many ways of writing a chromatic scale but you need to make sure that in every line and in every space there must be at least one note and no more than two. All notes of the chromatic scale must be a semitone apart.

Turn the following melody into a chromatic scale by adding the necessary accidentals.

Notice in the image above, that there is at least one note on every line and space but no more than two.
Each note is also separated by a semitone.
